The voting is over and it's time to give out some gongs in recognition of the great music and artists we have featured on Spiral Earth
over the past year. The awards celebrate the wide range of music we cover, always grounded in folk and roots but willing to go wherever it takes us.
We are getting some great feedback, click on the winners pics to read their response to getting the awards as we add them to the site...
BEST ALBUMThis year we have added an extra category, a special award that comes from the editorial team at Spiral Earth to recognise an outstanding event in the previous year. There was one event that stood out to all of us, the Folk Song a Day project by Jon Boden.
'Every day for one year Jon is posting a traditional song online to promote the art of ‘social’ (or communal) singing. Ending with 12 digital albums (one released each month), containing a total of 365 songs, Jon Boden will also be providing a unique, traditional folk song resource for those looking for inspiration; social singing made possible by contemporary technology.'
There has never been anything quite like this, he has harnessed modern technology to create a resourse of songs that has stimulated a huge amount of interest and discussion. Alongside that he's been gigging with Bellowhead and solo with his band the Remnant Kings, so this years Special Award Goes to Mr Boden for that project and being tireless in his enthusiasm for folk song.
