Rae Spoon
There is a flourishing new wave of Canadian roots artists, and Rae Spoon is at the forefront of that new generation. He has garnered praise, awards and fans since his first release in 2003. Since then he has been touring almost non-stop, both in Canada and internationally.
A new generation brings fresh perspectives and new understanding to their songwriting, Rae balances his respect for his influences with his own interpretation and fantastic alto voice which is centre stage throughout. Guitar, harmonica and banjo provide gentle backing.
His roots are bluegrass and country, but it's his contemporary perspective that moves it all onto a whole different plane. His lyrics tackle the role of the outsider, the displaced, and the need to belong. His compassionate wit keeps the whole album fresh and uplifting, his voice has the power to cast him in the roles of the observer and the observed.
Rae is one of those artists that comes along very rarely, one able to reach out across genres and cultures whilst retaining emotion and meaning. He stays true to his roots whilst giving us something new and wonderful.
