Popular Music That Will Live Forever
Finniston
An ep from Glasgow based duo Finniston, Steven Finnie and Jolene Crawford,
a brother and sister combo choosing a provocative title for their debut EP.
Luckily the material they have composed is of the highest order. They've crammed Six tracks of acoustic folk-pop with harmonies that the Beach Boys would be jealous of and a bit of social realism that Billy Bragg could respect.
Only the stoniest heart could resist the foot tapping charm of the first two tracks 'Another Love Song' and 'Half Man Half Boy' The change of tempo on 'changes' comes as a surprise, on a full album it would have more space to draw a breath - yet it only goes to show the promise they have. 'Listen to your Mother' is soaring harmonies against guitar and keyboards, 'Out Of Sight' is the one reminiscent of a cuddly Billy Bragg (if there is such a thing). 'Peace Of Mind' rounds it off on a slower introspective note.
Can't wait for a full album, their guitar, mandolin, fiddle and keyboards are used with a deft touch here, given the scope of this material they are capable of delivering something huge. Scotland is producing some incredible talent at the moment, Finniston are right up there on the crest.
Sample tracks are available on their web site, and the album can be
downloaded on iTunes.
