The Big Eyes Family Players & Friends 'Folk Songs II'

the, big, eyes, family, players,

On 6th August The Big Eyes Family Players & Friends release 'Folk Songs II' on Static Caravan Recordings. A follow-up to the 'Folk Songs' album made with Mr. Yorkston, this time it will feature Alasdair Roberts, Nancy Elizabeth, Mary Hampton, Elle Osborne, James William Hindle, Adrian Crowley, Sharron Kraus, Heather Ditch and, of course, James Yorkston. The musical arrangements were made by James Green, Brian Ellis, David A Jaycock, Paul Fletcher and Lindsay Aitkenhead.

Filmwork from the original project:

James admits to not knowing mush about folk music, or particularly having mush time for folk authenticity. The aim was to simply illustrate the songs and the voices in the most appropriate way.

Formed in 2000 as Big Eyes in a bedroom in Leeds, the project soon turned into a band. After playing shows and recording a number of albums there was a split in 2004. Reborn as The Big Eyes Family Players with a more collaborative lean a year later more albums were released on Pickled Egg/Rusted Rail. They went on to collaborate with Fifer James Yorkston on Domino for the first 'Folk Songs'. Now they have worked with Jeremy Barnes (A Hawk And A Hacksaw), Terry Edwards (Gallon Drunk/Tindersticks), Rachel Grimes (Rachel's) and many more. The band are currently based in Sheffield.
