Introducing The Safires

The Safires, PBS6

The Safires is a new venture from four established musicians who tend to work in rather different genres from each other but have spent the past two years fusing together their sound to present their debut album, Epic In The Ordinary.

The Safires is a new venture from four established musicians who tend to work in rather different genres from each other but have spent the past two years fusing together their sound to present their debut album, Epic In The Ordinary.

And it's already won them a fan in living legend, Nitin Sawhney, who commented: 'the stunning blend of Bex's wistful vocals with the raw hard edge of Kirk's searingly powerful tones forges a melting pot of sonic bliss. A cool backdrop of cutting edge riffs and beats sets the scene. Perfect for all seasons.

The Safires consist of folksinger, Bex Mather, who is also a youth and community programme manager at the Sage Gateshead; guitarist, Kirk McElhinney, who has supported Bert Jansch, Tommy Emanuel, Kathryn Williams and Nick Harper in the past; human beatbox and member of PBS6, Jason Singh, and David McEwan, responsible in The Safires for bass, electronics and programming.

And The Safires are encouraging their listeners to download the album for as much or as little as they like! Just visit http://www.thesafires.com/ and 'pay nothing or pay something'! You can also buy a hard copy of the album for £10, and keep your eye on the page for further information about forthcoming gigs.
