Another addition is Kitty Macfarlane, a “tipped for the top” 18-year-old student from Somerset is to play the main stage at Bristol Folk Festival – after winning an open mic competition. Kitty Macfarlane who lives in Milverton, near Taunton, won the contest this month at Somerfest, a one-day festival held at Halsway Manor near Crowcombe in Somerset and will now open the Bank Holiday Monday programme at Bristol Folk Festival on May 7.
Kitty, former head girl of Wellington School, is an acoustic singer songwriter, and has been playing her inspired songs in local folk clubs for some time but her music was heard by a much bigger audience when BBC Radio 4 featured her “Bus Song” on its popular Excess Baggage travel show. Presented by Sandy Toksvig, the show selected Kitty’s brilliantly observational song which told of her journey home from Taunton on the 25B bus!
