AFO conference

Or to give it its full title 'The Folk Industry & the Association of Festival Organisers Conference 2010' gets underway on 19 November. It is the pre-eminent event for anyone involved in the folk world, whether festivals, club or artist 'This is not a Conference just for the mighty and successful to show off. It is for all of us to tell of our ups and downs, our rich knowledge and experiences, put a face to the name and solve the problem in your work. A place to ask the questions, learn from and teach others, share what you know and take away a great deal more useful information than you arrived with!'

Spiral Earth has been involved with it for the past few years and we are always blown away by the sharing atmosphere that surrounds the whole event. Split into two parts the Folk Industry day is there for artists, promoters, agents and anyone involved in the business to soak up speeches, workshops, presentations and discussion. Then the following two days are for anyone involved in the events industry, the AFO supports and promotes independent festivals across many genres and this is the one event they can come together and share and network.

However it's not all earnest networking and seminars, several showcase concerts put the focus firmly on music and the performers at the heart of it, and then ther'e the bar....

As Ian Anderson, fRoots editor, said about it
‘GO! Kind of essential really, if you're serious about it . . .’
