Work Harder & One Day You’ll Find Her
Duotone
Barney Morse-Brown is probably best recognised on the folk circuit as the cellist in Eliza Carthy’s current band. But as Duotone, and in Work Harder & One Day You’ll Find Her, you won’t hear the link.

But as Duotone, and in Work Harder & One Day You’ll Find Her, you won’t hear the link.
Work Harder & One Day You’ll Find Her is a sumptuous collection of songs, where motifs are fully given the chance to sing and grow, expand and gather compatriots in other instruments, such as is the case in the aptly titled ‘Finally Unwoven.’ Vocals are close and to the point, with echoes of Simon and Garfunkel.
Dedicated to Barney’s late wife, the album never strays far from the solemn and the contemplative, but that doesn’t mean the material is bleak. ‘Pray For Me’ is lively, its chugging ostinatos aurally addictive which are carefully grounded by a walking double bass.
Work Harder & One Day You’ll Find Her is understated and genuine, heartfelt but unsentimental.
