Back in the dim and distant past there was a man of Fife going by the name of Kenny Anderson, he was a singer/songwriter with the bands Skuobhie Dubh Orchestra and Khartoum Heroes.
Kenny was a bit fed up, with the whole music scene and business, and the fact that he kept writing songs that didn't quite fit with the bands he was with, and they split up anyway. Kenny resolved to make music at home in the East Neuk as a solo artist in as chilled a manner as possible.
And jolly nice it was too, he released titles through local CD shops, his
brothers Een and Gordon joined him, they started a label Fence Records. Others
gathered unto them, and, lo! they had become the Fence Collective.
This creative hothouse effect allowed the loose collective of artists attached to it the space to create and experiment. Check out the Fence Collectives web site for the lowdown on everyone involved.
KC himself has released over twenty recordings veering from kitchen sink ditties with everything played by himself on any old instrument that came to hand, to his latest opus backed by the manc band The Earlies.
His strength as a songwriter lies in the beguiling way he can be so economical with words and arrangement yet get a depth of emotion into every chord and syllable, something that you just don't get in so much mainstream music.
