Kate Rusby

Kate is an award winning song writer, singer and musician. Never afraid to tear up the rule books or fly in the face of trad folk conservatism she has seven albums to her credit (and a few collaborations), DVD's and the soundtrack to the film 'Heartlands'.

All of her albums contain masterfully arranged music, but it's her voice that has the power to imbue folk songs from an age ago with contemporary relevance. So often an album of new and old (trad) material can sound painfully mismatched, this is not the case with Kate's work. Her albums show a strengthening assurance musically, yet her voice seems to have a timeless emotional purity.

Being a Woman of Barnsley seems to have lent her the yorkshire traits of determination, grit and honesty, leavened with a healthy dose of humour. Her albums are released on her own label
