02.04 am … BUSY DAY!
Been enjoying reading Rufus Causley’s insightful Radio 2 Website blog for Mike Harding.. seems he’s being well looked after on the Under One Sky tour.. some sad news from that tour.. Graham Coxon won’t be able to appear at The Sage or Alnwick dates due to family reasons.. quick thinking John McCusker got on the blower to his mate Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub though and he’s stepped in to fill Grahams position.. which should be top. As a young lad I once dj’d at a TFC show.. on their 2nd album, Bandwagonesque tour when it came to Derby.. for some strange reason I never saw them again until last year when they were playing Glasgow and it was non stop hits and John was guesting.. must have been donkeys years ago, both times they were totally amazing.. look out for their new album next year.
Today Lau were busy boys up in Edinburgh, they had a photo shoot for their new “Arc Light” (Title TBC) album due out March .. and I heard rumours of welding and goggles and someone trusting Kris Drever with a blow torch.. glad I wasn’t there for that it sounds dangerous to me.. tonight the Lau were at an awards dinner (hard life!) at the behest of Glennfidich Whiskey.. “Spirit Of Scotland”.. no prizes for Lau but nice they made it onto the star studded shortlist with KT Tunstall and Glasvegas etc..
We’ve just opened the webstore www.navigator-store.com and folks have been cleaning me out of all sorts of vinyl and albums.. cheers if you’ve already been by for a nose.. there was just enough time to stand about in the rain tonight on (under 9’s) football management duty before coming back for some hardcore travel booking.. there’s so many gigs coming up this month for our lot.. next week I'm off to see UOSKY and Joan As Police Woman.. John’s doing some interviews and sessions for radio, Joan As Police Woman will be over from the 4th for gigs and they too will be doing Radio 2 and XFm and stuff. There’s a trip to Scotland for the Trad Awards before hot footing it back down for UOSKY in Nottingham the next day..
Been listening to Martin Green Machine “First Sighting” today.. a wild beast of an album from the problem child accordionist from Lau.. lord knows what the folkies will make of this but I love it.. he’s broken down just about every conceivable genre boundary in the process… expect to see this mid January.
Watched This Is England the other night.. and intended to dig out the Shane Meadows dvd's tonight.. but never found time.. Got Mojo and was delighted to see 4 Navigator’s in their Folk top ten for 2008.. Mary, Chris, Bellowhead and DMW..
We’ve been getting things ready for manufacture all week.. Jon Boden’s album is about ready to hit the presses.. and word from Scotland is Sandy Wright’s just finished his album .. on his Birthday too.. Sarah from Harem Scarem’s done her track now so the compilation disc that accompanies it is nearing completion..
Boo’s on tour and selling his ep faster than man possessed.. there’s been loads of nice stuff going on for him this week.. radio 2 and 3, uncut ****, Q gave it **** and picked a song for one of their downloads of the month.. .. Apeman Dellare was onto me earlier happy boy that he is.. seems there’s loads of festivals and dates coming in for next year for Mawkin:Causley.. and we have been chewing the fat over album covers and titles which I’ll not reveal just yet.. mainly as they aint decided on one yet !
Righto that’s me .. turning the miner’s light off for another day
Up the workers !
