3029 new songs...

Have been spent sorting out the final running order for a Chris Wood Anthology I’m putting together and planning for the other 2009 releases including Lau, Mawkin:Causley, A CAMP (Nina Perrson of the cardigans), Sandy Wright and some upcoming touring by Under One Sky , Mary Hampton, Joan As Police Woman and listening to as many of the new cd’s piling up on my desk as possible..

I’m in a rush to get things cleared up as best I can, so I’m free to go to a conference .. there’s loads of interesting new music being sent in and much of it by email too so I’m going back and dragging it all into the iTunes ( I do wish it was labelled up before sending it in I think to myself) and Rosalie Deighton and Kim Richey have both arrived this way and are played a few times through the day in between syncing Chris Wood and Angel Brothers albums.. which reminds me I need to re-sync the ipod before leaving, as its been ages.. when I do, I realise there’s 3029 new songs to be added and wonder how long that will take to listen to and if I’ll ever catch up fully with all the music that’s arriving these days.

I’m feeling lucky not to be working in someone else’s office and to be sent all this music, but if I had 10 labels I couldn’t put out all the good music that makes it through the letter and inboxes...

Meanwhile a big delivery arrives of Under One Sky albums and it’s time to do a massive mail out of promos to our lists.. that takes care of every available hour long into the night and everything finally gets finished off..

There’s been much quick fire texting and emailing from people to congratulate and debate the BBC Folk Awards nominations... just announced tonight in Mike Harding’s show...

‘Rufus’ Causley (aka Jim) is sounding excited and happy as is his gang leader Dave ‘Apeman’ Delarre.. it’s just dawning on me perhaps having all 4 of the Best Group nominations is both a beautiful thing and potentially a poison chalice (as 3 navigators are going to be disappointed).. folk seem to be slightly amazed Rufus and the Apeman are straight into ‘Best Group’ after only releasing an ep in August and not the newcomer thing, ‘horizon’ award.. there’s surprise Spiers & Boden and Bellowhead are not up for ‘Best Album’.. votes are votes and you won’t hear me complaining that so many people we work with are up for awards.. our mates Chris Wood and Karine Polwart are up for a sack full too..

Out side the Navigator / Reveal axis I’m dead pleased Jim Moray and The Shee are in there.. I’ve been enjoying both those records a lot - Jim’s record is one of my most played this year, I really like his approach to production and I think he’s made a truly brilliant album.
