Its relocation to Beverley Racecourse certainly seems to have increased its popularity, with some events likely to sell out in advance. http://www.spiralearth.co.uk/news/story.asp?nid=7472 Orkney Folk Festival Review www.spiralearth.co.uk/news/story.asp?nid=7459 Few would think of packing sunscreen for a trip to the Orkney Folk Festival - but a good many wished they had by the end of this year’s 31st outing, to judge by a liberal smattering of scorched scarlet faces among Sunday night’s crowd. Predominantly glorious weather saw the event’s celebrated informal sessions spilling outside from end to end of the stone-paved main street in Stromness - Orkney’s second main port, after the capital Kirkwall - where the festival is based. In fact, it’s not unusual for the four-day shindig to be smiled upon in this way - whether that’s thanks to some regular seasonal quirk, or because its signature concentration of unanimous bonhomie somehow generates its own microclimate. Sunshine displayed the surrounding land and seascapes to full, jewel-like advantage, shading gradually into a long, long twilight, which - on a clear night this far north, by this time of year - segues directly into dawn, never descending fully into darkness. http://www.spiralearth.co.uk/news/story.asp?nid=7459 Southwell Folk Festival Review www.spiralearth.co.uk/news/story.asp?nid=7412 The gods were extremely generous to the seventh Southwell Folk Festival.
