
Levellers - Guest Editors - Day one 5th April 2010
We're chuffed to have the Levellers as our guest editors for April. 2010 marks the twentieth anniversary of the release of their first album A Weapon Called The Word and the band are about to embark on a UK tour and are looking forward to their festival Beautiful Days in August.
Over the course of the week we will be running video interviews, Q&As with the band and delve into the background of their record label and the Beautiful Days festival.

We spent a day with the Levellers at their Brighton studio and headquarters The Metway filming interviews for this weeks guest editor slot. in our first episode Charlie Heather and Jon Sevink talk about the Metway studio, its history and how it has been a part of the Levellers world for around fifteen years.

What was the last book you've read?
The Bicycle Runner by Franco Romagnoli, it’s about the a boy growing up in Italy during the war and ends up joining the resistance movement, very funny.
What was the first gig you went to, and what is the best gig you've ever been to?
My first gig I went to was a band called Sub-defuse ( later became The Case ) a local band from where I was from, and it change my life knowing this is something I wanted to do.
The best gig was The Cure headlining Glastonbury in 1980-something.
Was there an album or artist that inspired you to become a musician?
I can't pinpoint a specific album but despite my love of punk rock some of the early Pink Floyd got me into playing experimental stuff that I loved.
What was the first festival you went to?
My first ever festival was Stonehenge where my band at the time did a couple of gigs.
Apart from Beautiful Days, which is your favourite festival?
Hard one, can't I say Beautiful Days?
Which Levellers album is your favourite, and why?
Levelling the Land, no, Weapon called the word, no, Letters from the underground, oh I don't know. Between these three albums sums us up, I guess its dealing with life politics what I really like about them.
And which Levellers song sums up the band for you?
Dance before the storm, again it’s looking at life politics but with a sense of humour and without being too po-faced about it.
What is your favourite dinosaur?
Pink Floyd
