Chumbawamba guest editors

Chumba took Spiral Earth over for the week and gave us a great insight into the way they work and what's held them together over the years.

Day One - Interview To kick off the Chumbawamba guest editorship of the good ship Spiral Earth we have a short interview with them. There are some real treats in store for you this week, from a description of how Chumba work together to their take on the eternal subject of 'What is folk music?'.

Day Two - Song by Song ABCDEFG –
an album about music, we’ve looked at music’s history, its stories, its heroes and its villains. A sweep through several hundred years of what music means to people and what it means

Day Three - How We Work
our thumbnail guide to on How to Work Together with Other People, to Create Something and to Make It Last. (Sub-heading: To not fall out over ‘artistic differences’. To avoid those critical “Right I’m leaving the band!” arguments.)

Day four
- they tackle the eternal riddle; What is Folk? Their dissection of the current scene and its foibles is a masterful analysis of the gentrification of folk music, where are the factory songs amidst the rural idyll conjured by Cecil Sharpe et al?

Whatever your opinions, this is a stimulating piece. Click here to read it

Day Five - Treading the boards with Red Ladder, the story of their recent stint as backing band with Red Ladder Theatre Company. Find out why Jude is The Luckiest Woman in Pop/Folk/Acoustic/Roots music.
