Cash Back: Johnny Cash by Dean Owens

Scottish singer/songwriter Dean Owens has just been part of a Johnny Cash tribute at the Southern Fried Festival in Perth Scotland. Playing alongside Dick Gaughan, Darrell Scott, Jeb Loy Nicholls, Ruthie Foster and My Darling Clementine, among many others, the show was a huge success. Now, to be part of Dean's much anticipated album full of Johnny Cash numbers, 'Cash Back', all you have to do is visit his website and see the 'Be Part Of The New Album' link.
Dean says, 'I’m very excited about this album. It’s a record I’ve been wanting to make for sometime and this year seemed like a good time with it being the year of Johnny’s 80th birthday.
It features some songs written by Johnny Cash, but also some written by other great writers that I heard him sing before I heard the original versions. Writers like Nick Lowe, Kris Kristofferson and Bob Dylan. Nearly all the recording for the album is done, but I still need to raise more funds for mixing and mastering to see it through to completion.
Initial recording sessions took place at Elba Studios in Glasgow towards the end of last year where I was joined by some fantastic Scottish musicians including Kevin McGuire on double bass, Stuart Nisbet on guitar and Marianne Campbell on fiddle. The recordings were then sent over to one of my favourite musicians – Will Kimbrough in Nashville where he added guitar, banjo, mandolin, slide etc, etc. It’s all sounding great.'
